The Head Post Office Agra has a prominent place in this Historical City.  Agra Head Post office is situated in the beautiful area of Agra Cantt on the Mall Road.

      This Post Office building was built in 1913. This Post Office is one of the oldest Post Offices of India. It is told that it was District Hqr of Import/Export before starting of Postal operations, which was later on recognized as Post Office.

     This Post office building is a model of beautiful architecture. One of the historical buildings of India Post, it has arched architecture with two beautiful Porches on both sides. The covered area of the Post Office building is 19500 Sq. feet and open area is 1,89,975 Sq. feet.


     There is one big hall with two small halls on both sides which are joined with main hall through lobby. There are two halls on the first floor above the small halls with stairs from the sides. The ceiling of the building is very high, which gives an open work with good air flow. There is one dome of 45 Feet height in the middle of the building which gives it a beautiful look.

There is one well maintained big lawn in front of the Post Office building which raises the look of the building. An old and rare letter box is installed in the middle of the garden. Head Post Office Agra has a huge campus. Office of the Postmaster General, Agra Region is situated on the back side of the Head Post Office along with P&T Colony, Residences of P.M.G. and Director. An Inspection Quarter is also situated in this campus. The building is painted in white and red colour that is official colors of India Post which attracts the attention of anyone passing through the

Agra City has links with the History of the Post Offices in India. Famous Rai Saligram Bahadur Ji of Radhaswami sect also known as Huzoor Maharaj who was  born in Agra became first Indian Postmaster General in 1881. If we gone through the history of India Post, according to Agra Gazetteer, the first Post Office in Agra was opened on 6 June 1835 at that time this Post Office was one of the 267 Post Offices which were controlled by the Postmaster General Bengal. 1839 onwards Agra Post Office was functioning under Postmaster General North West Province which was an  important Post Office among the  55 Post Offices in this area at that time.

Head Post Office Agra has been modernized under Project Arrow in 2008. At present the Head Post Office Agra is fully computerized and improving its services day by day according to the needs and expectations of the public and customers in the 21st century.
